Social Security Creates New Center for Section 504 Complaince

The Social Security Administration has announced the creation of a new Center for Section 504 Compliance.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities, and requires the federal government to provide individuals with meaningful access to government facilities, programs, and services.

Although the provision of accommodations to the public is not new, the Center for 504 Compliance is new to Social Security.   The Center for Section 504 Compliance will provide guidance to Social Security offices to ensure that those with disabilities have meaningful access when conducting business with Social Security.

The Center for Section 504 Compliance will have a Toll-Free Number, where individuals may report issues and make suggestions regarding meaningful access.

The toll-free number is 1-844-881-9061.  The business hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 4:00pm Eastern Time (except federal holidays).
